Moped crashes onto train tracks

Rail riders on Metro-North's Hudson line had to put up with minor delays this morning after a motorized scooter wound up on the tracks. MTA officials say a 44 year-old woman was riding too fast down Southside Avenue to the Hastings-on-Hudson train station when she lost control and flew right onto the tracks just after 7:30 a.m. The Hudson line was suspended for 10 minutes as police were seen hoisting it off the tracks.

The Westchester County Board of Legislators passed a resolution in opposition of the Coast Guard's proposal to create anchorage sites for barges that will affect several Westchester communities along the Hudson River. Investigation Of TZB Crane Collapse Expected To Take Some Time

Days after a crane boom fell across the Tappan Zee Bridge, effectively closing it for hours and causing motorists to scramble for alternate routes, Rockland officials said they expect the investigation of the collapse to take some time to be completed. A crane operating a vibratory hammer that was driving pile into the Hudson River, part of the new Tappan Zee Bridge construction, collapsed on Tuesday and it's boom fell across the old bridge.

First Day of Trial for Pipeline Foes Starts with Press Conference

The trial began Friday for the Montrose 9, activists arrested for disorderly conduct Nov. 9 for halting work on Spectra Energy's Algonquin Pipeline AIM project by blocking access to their construction yard in Montrose, NY. NYC suburb investigating anti-Semitic vandalism

The vandalism of a Jewish family's home in an affluent New York suburb that was spray-painted with swastikas is being investigated as a bias incident, police said. Police in Hastings-on-Hudson said Monday that they believe the perpetrators of the Dec. 29 vandalism are youth and that the incident grew out of a conflict among individuals, Lohud.com reported .

Hastings-on-Hudson to Sign Waterfront Cleanup Consent Decree with Atlantic Richfield

Hastings-on-Hudson, Atlantic Richfield and Riverkeeper are finalizing the remaining details of AR's planned cleanup of 28 acres of contaminated waterfront property the company owns in the village, Mayor Peter Swiderski announced late Friday. The land once held a wire manufacturing facility that leached contaminants into the soil and groundwater, and under the agreement, called a Consent Decree, the cleanup is scheduled to start in the spring of 2017.
