Hastings-On-Hudson Students Take 'Walk In My Shoes'

Farragut Middle School students participated in a half-day program called "Walk in My Shoes" on Monday, March 16, to raise awareness of the spectrum of challenges children experience that may not be obvious. From participating in carefully crafted activities and discussions, students walked away with a new understanding of, and empathy for, people facing challenges that affect the school experience.

Broadway Training Center Presents a Chorus Line This Weekend

Broadway Training Center of Westchester, one of the region's premier performing arts schools, will present the iconic musical "A Chorus Line" this weekend, March 27-29 at the Irvington Town Hall Theater in Irvington, N.Y. The show will feature BTC's senior ensemble consisting of high school students from throughout Westchester County and the Bronx. "We're extremely excited to bring this classic, groundbreaking musical to a new generation," said Jason Brantman , co-artistic director of the nonprofit, Hastings-on-Hudson-based program.

Josephine Downar, 94, Of Hastings-On-Hudson

HUDSON, N.Y. Josephine Downar, a lifetime Hastings-on-Hudson resident, died peacefully Wednesday, March 18. She was 94. She is survived by a sister, Pauline Ciborowski; one niece, one nephew and great-nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be at the Hastings Funeral Home, 15 Spring St., on Friday, March 20, from 3-7 p.m. A funeral Mass is set for St. Matthew Church on Saturday.

Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and the Rivertowns Seeing Dividends from 'Pothole Killer'

The Villages of Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown are having their potholes filled with a device nicknamed the "Pothole Killer," thanks to a joint venture of the Greenburgh Village Officials Committee. In January, the group contracted with Pennsylvania-based Patch Management, Inc. to spend a total of 80 hours on various streets in the seven villages filling potholes.

Plurality: No ban, tax on plastic bags

The Westchester village of Hastings-on-Hudson recently became possibly the first New York municipality to ban both single-use plastic bags and foam food containers. Fully effective Feb. 1, the bans target these bags and containers because they do not biodegrade and are not easily recycled.
